We exist to delight. To make staying somewhere, and owning somewhere, genuinely joyful.
This is the sentence the whole company runs on. Delight the guest and they leave a five-star review. The review brings more bookings. More bookings make a happy owner. A happy owner puts money back into the property. A better property delights the next guest. Round it goes.
Which is why we do not treat the guest as the owner's customer and the owner as ours. They are the same wheel. Every internal argument about whether to spend money on a better bed or a faster response gets settled by asking which way it turns.
When we started, the company was one person with a spreadsheet, a bunch of keys and a bakkie. Doing it properly at scale needed software nobody was going to build for us, so we built it ourselves, and we have been at it for eleven years. We became Africa's first direct Airbnb API partner, and we run our own operations app, building access platform and owner dashboard, with updates shipped every week.
We never set out to replace people with software. We wanted the machine to take everything a machine does better: the pricing, the scheduling, the reminders, the triage, the first draft. That way, 450 people can spend their days on the things only a person can do, like noticing that a guest is travelling for a funeral, getting a geyser fixed before check-in, or saying sorry and meaning it.
Automation gives us the room to stay human as we grow. In this industry that is the hard part, and it is the last thing we would compromise on.
Our test for whether we are any good is not a number. It is whether anyone would actually miss us if Propr disappeared tomorrow. People would find another manager, of course. What we want to know is whether guests, owners and the people who work here would feel the gap. The technology, the training, the standards and the five values below all exist to make the answer yes.
Values can look like a corporate marketing ploy. Ours get used. When somebody on our team is in a flat at midnight with a problem and no script, these five tell them what to do.
When we mess up we do not say "we apologise for the inconvenience". We say "I am really, really sorry", and we make it right every time.
We celebrate the win, then go looking for the next thing we are getting wrong, because we want to get better every day, as a company and as people.
What is in your email signature does not decide whose idea is best. The person who cleans your apartment is expected to tell us how to run it better, and we listen.
The question is always "how can I help", never "what is the least my job requires". We have three customers: our teammates, our guests and our owners. All three should feel the whole team is there for them.
We work hard to put people in roles they are great at and that mean something to them. Happy teams make delighted guests, and only in that order.
Receptionists, housekeepers, maintenance crews, revenue managers, property managers, developers and guest experience pros across five cities. Everyone is here to delight our guests.
Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Dubai and Lisbon, and a few new pins on the map every year.
